May Midweek Fly-out to RNAS Yeovilton

The weather was back to its usual tricks for the flight to Yeovilton. While the cloud base was good at Wycombe Air Park, it was only 500 feet at Yeovilton, but due to improve, so we started a waiting game. As forecast, all be it slower than expected, the weather improved and the fleet took to the skies.

5 club Warriors, the Dakota, 2 Eurostars from Steve Pike's fleet plus 1 privately owned aircraft joined us for the flight to Yeovilton, 23 of us in total. Unfortunately the Auster developed a problem before leaving Wycombe Air Park so was unable to join us on this trip.

After landing at Yeovilton we were marshalled in and lined up for parking with precision accuracy. We were met by Roger Bodnurchuck who escorted us to the waiting coach which took us over to the Fleet Air Arm Museum and restaurant.

After visiting the museum we were again transported back by coach and given a tour of the control tower and the radar room. All very interesting and informative.

On start-up each aircraft had its own helmeted marshaller armed with fire extinguisher. A pleasant flight back was had by all in near perfect conditions.

Our thanks go to 'Mr B.' for all his assistance in helping organise this visit.
